About the Instructors
About BRIAN KOHATSU:
Born and raised in Glendale, Arizona, one would think
that Brian would have a dry sense of humor…but seriously folks, it’s Arizona, he’s just trying not to be deported. Using physicality, impression, music and improvisation, Brian is one of the hottest comedians on the rise in the Southwest.
Having spent 20 years as an award-winning director,
Brian stepped away from the camera to begin his career
in comedy. He quickly found success in radio as the host of his own show, The BS Factor with Brian and Stephanie
on the All Comedy Radio network. Brian gained national recognition when many of his sketches were featured on National Lampoon Radio on XM/Sirius.
For several years now, Brian has trained and performed with various improv troupes, including The Mixed Nuts, Innappopriov, CrossEyed Comedy and The Improvonauts
that he co-found with comedian Mike James. As Brian’s comedy career gained momentum, stand up comedy seemed inevitable.
Brian's impressions, knowledge of pop culture and unique delivery style have made him an audience favorite. It doesn't matter what he's talking about, Brian puts a smile on everybody's face!
Brian is married with two children...and a dog named Turbo.
About MIKE JAMES:
Mike James has been the director and leader of several of the valley's most successfull Improv troupes over the years (including Innapropriov and The Mixed Nuts). Most recently Mike (along with Brian Kohatsu) formed Improvonauts, a corporate performing troupe and have been booked all around Arizona. Mike credits his extensive Improv training and experience for the success he has had as a corporate and club standup comic as well as a sought after emcee.
Mike James is an in-demand comic. He performs around the country as a corporate entertainer and can also be found on stage in some of the most prominent comedy clubs.
Mike uses his improvisation skills and his life experience as a husband, father, grandfather and generally very confused man to relate to his audience in a hilarious montage of miscommunication and everyday observations. He is brilliant at customizing his performance to fit any audience and giving them a one of a kind experience.
Mike is an accomplished Comedian, Emcee, Corporate Humorist, Improvisor, Event Officiant and Roast Master.
Mike keeps his audience laughing as he reflects on the myriad of events that have defined him, including being a husband, father, grandfather and service member. He has worked with some of the biggest names in comedy today.
Mike performs primarily as a standup comedian. He also performs with Brian Kohatsu as part of a comedy team as well as a member of The Improvonauts Improv Troupe.
Mike is able to tailor fit his performance for your needs. From incorporating your specific details to improvising with audience members, Mike keeps the hilarity coming!
